We are so proud of our recently completed great room updated traditional design project. As you can see from our portfolio, it is not too often that we are able to design a more classic, traditional space. When this client contacted us about a year ago, she and her husband had just purchased a beautiful new construction in Woodbridge. The house was a blank canvas. Although they had furnishings they wanted to keep for the formal living and dining room, the family room and morning room were blank canvases. Her furnishings from her previous home were more traditional in style and although she wanted to create flow, she wanted to move away from the formal traditional. She wanted something fresh and warm and very updated. I had a lot of fun with this project.

This is the morning room/sunroom before we started.

And this is the family room. The client had already commissioned the beautiful custom built ins and they were practically complete by the time we started working with her. As you can see, one of our tasks was to integrate the beautiful baby grand piano into the space.

After about six weeks of designing, we developed a complete design for these two rooms in the home. They included new paint on the walls, which we also continued down the hallway and into the two story entryway for continuity. It is a soft golden/green color. We designed beautiful custom window treatments, added new lighting and of course specified all of the new furnishings. Here is how the morning room/sunroom/breakfast room turned out.

The beautiful farm style table extends to seat 8 comfortably. We added a soft fern green fabric to the custom dining chairs. A new chandelier floats happily over the table. We also added two gorgeous display cabinets to display the client’s collection of beautiful china. Although the room is small, it feels light and welcoming.

Our beautiful family room boasts a gorgeous, yet very comfortable sectional sofa in soft golden brown chenille. The accent pillows, in dark brown, red and rust pop off the neutral sofa. A large, sophisticated yet comfortable ottoman acts as a coffee table and allows the homeowners to put up their feet when relaxing. Two beautiful accent chairs in a fun yet sophisticated ivory with rust scroll fabric provides additional seating. The baby grand fits perfectly into the space. We utilized the client’s beautiful pedestal table between the two chairs and her antique secretary fits perfectly into the corner.

Above the sofa we placed a mirrored screen from Uttermost to bounce light and add oomph. It is punctuated on either end by gorgeous wall sconces from Currey and Company. Two chinese style garden stools add seating and texture to the space. A large, soft, cushy custom rug anchors the area. It keeps the space from feeling too formal.

On the opposite side, two beautiful accents chairs create a cozy nook for listening to piano recitals and reading. Beautiful silk drapery panels with accent banding in the rust color add sophistication and soften the space. We added family photos in between to disguise the extra wall space between the tops of the windows and the tall ceilings.

We so enjoyed working on this project and look forward to continuing to work with these wonderful clients.
