HAPPY FAMILY HOME IN FAIRFAX STATION

HAPPY FAMILY HOME

The homeowners had recently purchased a very traditional home in Fairfax Station with great bones, but the interiors felt dark, gloomy & uninspiring. Surrounded by a wooded lot and abundant greenery the home had incredible potential that wasn’t being fully realized. With three tween children, the family wanted a space that felt lively, warm, inviting, and highly functional, one that supported everyday family life while radiating positive energy.

Our goal was to brighten the home, highlight its beautiful connection to the outdoors, & create spaces that felt intentional, joyful & easy to live in. We leaned into the home’s large windows and views of the surrounding greenery, bringing the outside in through color, light, and thoughtful material choices. The homeowners weren’t afraid of color, which allowed us to introduce bold accents while keeping the overall palette fresh & balanced.

Living & Dining Rooms

The existing living and dining rooms felt flat and uninspired. We introduced light, bright wall colors to lift the space and added accent walls that were thoughtfully tied into furnishings and accessories. Neutral drapery was elevated with green banding, subtly pulling in the outdoor landscape while keeping the look clean and sophisticated. The result is a space that feels open, welcoming & connected to its natural surroundings.

Entry & Functional Storage

Functionality was a major focus throughout the home. We designed custom cubbies for every family member incorporating hidden storage to keep daily clutter concealed. The entry makes a bold first impression with pops of color, setting an energetic and inviting tone as soon as you walk in.

Home Office

The homeowner’s office was a complete gut renovation. We transformed it into a comfortable, inspiring workspace with custom built-ins, layered lighting, and a bold green wall color that echoes the views outside. A statement chandelier serves as both functional lighting and a design exclamation point.

Kitchen & Breakfast Nook

As an avid cook and chef, the homeowner needed a truly functional chef’s kitchen. We reworked an awkward layout to create a large working island with seating, perfect for both cooking & gathering. The kitchen features an induction range, dedicated coffee station, oversized refrigerator, and abundant storage.

The breakfast nook was updated by enhancing the existing built-in bench and pairing it with a large table that comfortably accommodates the entire family.

Family Room

The family room’s original built-ins were neither attractive nor functional. We redesigned and repainted them, updated the fireplace, and introduced a green accent tile to tie the space back to the surrounding landscape. Lightened walls and ceilings helped transform the room into a brighter, more inviting gathering space.

Primary Bathroom

The primary bathroom was fully gutted and redesigned with intention. Custom cabinetry was carefully planned for maximum functionality and storage. A spacious wet room features an oversized shower with a comfortable built-in bench, creating a spa-like retreat that is both luxurious and practical.

Lighting Throughout

Lighting played a key role in the transformation of the home. Sconces and chandeliers were used throughout as design accents serving as visual punctuation marks while enhancing both ambiance and functionality in each space.
