We recently completed the interior design of a main level in Woodbridge that was a unique project of us style-wise. The home owners love all things wine, including wine county. They also love a more vintage, patina-ed, rustic look. We call their unique style shabby-chic meets vintage wine country. They asked us to design their living room, dining room, and family room. We also assisted with their sunroom and office spaces.

For the living room, they didn’t want a standard sitting room that no one actually used. We went through several iterations of design, including a more mudroom style design with custom built ins and a gorgeous round barrel style table with glass top which we ended up purchasing but they decided to use in their basement wine bar instead. We finally landed on a lounging, reading, relaxing room. They envisioned themselves lounging with a glass of wine and good book in this space, while their teenage sons hung out in the family room watching television. We custom designed a chaise lounge and added a durable linen fabric and large bronze nailhead trim to it. Next to it we added an accent table that the homeowners already owned. A leather chair and ottoman next to a chest handed down by the homeowner’s mother finish off this perfectly simple lounge. The window treatments are a flat roman shade with a top/down bottom feature that allows for plenty of natural light but also privacy. They are in a rustic, vintage printed linen.

The dining room was a ton of fun. If you follow our work you know that we love treating tray ceilings. Whether is wallpaper or paint treatments we have never met a tray ceiling that we just leave alone. In this dining room a venetian plaster faux finish was added to the tray ceiling, courtesy of Special FX Design Studio and Michele Mayberry. We painted the walls throughout the main level a soft greenish gold. Below the chair rail in this room however we added the darker green paint color that is also in the venetian plaster. The windows were a lot of fun. We custom designed beautiful stationary panels in a Thibaut linen. We decided to create a sitting nook in the bay window and therefore added the drapery panels just outside each side of the bay, creating a “nook” effect. Two Louie chairs and a small accent table finish our nook. A large rustic table with six rustic dining chairs from Arhaus allow for large family gatherings. The homeowner found two parsons chairs in a fabric that didn’t coordinate with our needs. She found two linen chair covers at Pottery Barn and we customized them by adding a banding of grey green linen to the bottoms. Now they look like we planned it all along. The highlight of the space is the gorgeous chandelier from Aidan Grey. Its rustic and elegant and really adds umph to the space. We purchased a beautiful sideboard from Guildmaster and had them give it an antique white finish. Above it we hung the homeowner’s existing rustic mantle shelf and added rustic accessories. A few accents and accessories scattered throughout the space finish it off and give it a collected feel.

In the family room we wanted comfort to the be key ingredient in our design. The homeowner’s existing sofa was complimented with a coordinating love seat. A new rustic coffee table and accent table are both functional and in keeping with our theme. A gorgeous round accent able from Guildmaster creates the perfect family photo pedestal in front of our creative photo collage wall. In front of the fireplace we added a comfortable new accent chair and put next it a barrel style accent table and rustic floor lamp (which the homeowner treasure hunted). On the other side a comfortable and stylish rocking chair and ottoman finish off the seating area. The highlight of the space is the gorgeous armoire we purchased from Guildmaster. It houses the TV and adds so much texture and interest to the space. The homeowners worked with Michele Mayberry of Special FX to give a rustic wood grain finish to the existing mantle which compliments the room perfectly. The custom draperies were a lot of fun to design. They are in a scroll printed linen by Thibaut. A few well appointed accessories finish off the space.

We had a blast helping these two wonderful homeowners create a home that they can truly enjoy. They describe it as their escape from their very busy lives. It reminds them of all of the things they love. They were a pleasure to work with, primarily because they truly wanted a home they could live in comfortably and love. We love working with that type of client!
